The International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) released their annual ILTA/InsideLegal Technology Purchasing Survey and we’re both delighted and honored to have been recognized as an exceptional provider of customer service for the second year in a row!
This year’s survey was particularly interesting – especially when the participating firms were asked questions about the increasingly prevalent Bring Your Own Device culture (BYOD). It turns out that the overwhelming majority of law firms (78%) allow employees to purchase their own laptops, tablets, and / or phones, with 66% of respondents indicating they are purchasing iPads as their tablet of choice!
The survey also indicated that the adoption cloud computing is a major consideration for law firms with 32% of firms indicating they are currently using or implementing a cloud computing solution, while another 38% are actively researching it.
There’s a strong connection between the increasing prevalence of BYOD in the legal environment and the overall interest in cloud computing in the legal sector. If you want to effectively manage BYOD’s security, accessibility, IP protection and backup issues, you need to have a plan in place – you need to extend your secure collaborative ecosystem beyond the firewall. The survey shows that law firms are ready for the latest cloud-enabled collaboration solutions that foster BYOD initiatives in the legal sector. However, the survey also shows that there’s a desire for a balance between deploying new technology, compliance and IP protection.
With Workshare, organizations can now apply the same metadata cleaning, data policy enforcement and collaboration they have implemented to the desktop infrastructure to the cloud and mobile devices. Workshare allows administrators to enforce company policy through its data policy engine that cleans hidden metadata, based on the predefined settings that control what can be shared and what recipients can do with the documents once shared via email, in the cloud or mobile device or tablet.
