Top Tips for Workshare Professional Users

Below are the top tips for Workshare Professional users. These tips will help you manage documents easier and possibly reveal product features you were not aware of. If you have other tips please feel free to share them in the comments below.

  1. A shortcut key to open the Workshare Configuration Manager – Press F4.
  2. Open and a Repair on a document in Word can clean a large number of document corruption cases.
  3. If you have an error running a comparison, try comparing the original and modified documents against themselves.  If it is corruption in one of the documents that’s causing the issue, it should fail to compare against itself - this can help narrow the cause down to just one of the documents when troubleshooting.
  4. You can save your redlines to multiple formats through the Document Management section of Configuration Manager.
  5. You can email a Redline as a Track change document, by clicking on our Review tab and selecting ‘Email as Track Changes’ from the Send drop down menu.
  6. When using Office 2003, if there are any conflicts with Workshare templates and 3rd party Word templates, the Workshare templates can be moved from \Application Data\Workshare location, to the Office start-up folder.
  7. If you need to license or relicense a number of machines, this can be done by simply pushing out a centrally stored license file to the Workshare folder. This will also help if you cannot connect to our licensing server to due your proxy server configuration.
  8. You can change your Workshare Professional view to look like the old Deltaview, if that’s what the users might prefer.
  9. If you only want to use our MSI for installation, use WinRAR to extract the files by right-clicking on the install executable.
  10. The ‘Protect Service’ can be disabled on a standard users PC, as it is mainly only required for the installation of the Protect module.  It is also responsible for updating the Protect policy, however this can be handled from an Administrators PC/Server.
  11. If an issue only occurs on one PC, running the Workshare Configuration Assistant can cure most issues such as integration with Office or DMS software.
  12. When installing on Vista or Windows 7, it is recommended that UAC is turned off.
