In light of recent events such as the Snowden saga, it’s unsurprising that more organisations are now paying closer attention to where their data is being stored and the laws regional and international legislation that applies to it. There are actually a few different options when it comes to how and where your data is stored.
Public vs Private
The traditional public cloud model, allows you to deploy your collaboration solution without having to free space on your servers to support the system. However, as you may be aware, your data could potentially be spread across a number of different data centers in various locations. Private cloud is another deployment model that has been around for some time; but this requires hosting the application and data on internal servers which can be expensive.
To address this Workshare offers a variety of deployment options to help address concerns organisations have around data storage and jurisdiction. With the Workshare public cloud option, you can choose a specific geographical location for your data to be stored across Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa, Middle East, South America and North America. Workshare also offers hybrid deployment which is a recent development in deployment models for file share and sync solutions. There are a lot of different explanations around hybrid, so let me explain what Workshare means by “hybrid deployment" and why I think this could be a valid option for you to consider.
Taking the Hybrid Cloud Road
The Workshare hybrid deployment option enables businesses to purchase and deploy a file share and sync solution where their data is stored on their corporate, internal servers while the application (software) is served from a Workshare data center. Businesses have the ability to select which data center they would like to use.
With this type of deployment, your data would never touch a Workshare data center, ensuring you have complete control over where your information is stored and the legal jurisdiction it falls under.
